What is MotherCircle?

MotherCircle Alameda is a sacred gathering for mothers of all stages who want to have deeper conversations about motherhood in the presence of a supportive community.

MotherCircle offers women in all seasons of life an opportunity to mine the profound wisdom that can emerge through motherhood. It supports you to explore the unseen arc of your motherhood journey, step confidently into your new identity as a mother, and build the village you need along the way. Circling together returns us to an age-old practice: women, sitting in circle, growing together through support, honesty, and courage.

MotherCircle is the brainchild of Kimberly Ann Johnson and Jessica Connolly, who have trained and certified hundreds of facilitators all over the world (including me!). MotherCircle Alameda is one circle of many aiming to rebuild mother culture and strengthen our communities across the globe.

Awareness of our cyclical nature can help us align with out innate wisdom as mothers. Explore how being in rhythm with the cycles in and around us gives us more access to our wholeness and our power.

The predator-prey dynamic is present in our experience of birth and motherhood. Explore how this awareness and understanding of your nervous system can impact your everyday life and mothering.

Birth is an initiatory experience that fundamentally changes us. We'll explore ways to access and share this experience that locates the wisdom it has to offer for our motherhood journeys.

There is often a split between being a mother and being sexual. Learn how to connect with your ever changing sexuality as a mother and become more at home in your body and your sexuality.

MotherWorth 1.png

Motherhood changes how we relate to our work in the world. Explore the relationship between your worth and your value and anchor the things that nurture your worth as part of your mothering practice.

MotherCode 2.png

We have a powerful opportunity to imagine the legacy we'd like to leave. We are shaped by our motherline and the mothers around us, and we can choose what we want to carry forward. Together we'll identify the values that we want to guide us mothering and shape our lineage.

Sessions

Our eight sessions will form an arc, allowing us to deepen into connection with ourselves, other mothers, and the material. These sessions are a mixture  of learning, feeling, and witnessing. Each session will have a theme, as follows, and will allow exploration of the theme through inner reflection, journaling, somatic and breathing exercises, and sharing in dyads and groups.

Facilitator

My name is Sarah Connolly. I am an Alameda mother of two living daughters, ages 3 and 13, and one spirit baby. I am also an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (#145129)
supervised by Natalie Webster (LMFT #126065) at the Axis Mundi Center for Mental Health.

My own journey through motherhood has been devastatingly beautiful, absolutely transformative, and has led me to dedicate my life to supporting other mothers. I have been blessed to be held in circles of wise mothers at each stage of my motherhood journey, and am honored to carry that gift forward and facilitate that community of support in our amazing island city.

When not working to support mothers, you can find me biking around the island with my daughters in our cargo bike; spending time in parks and at the beach; taking long solo walks by the water; hopping on the ferry for date nights with my husband; or curling up with my kitties and a great book.
